INCLUDING NUNAVUT
The Northwest Territories have a land area of 1,304,896 square miles or
3,379,683
square kilometers but only has a population of approximately 52,238 people due
o vast areas of this region being of a nonagricultural nature which consist of
tundra
and permafrost regions. The capital of the Territories is Yellowknife, which is
also
the largest city in the area. Settled in 1800 the Territories were admitted to
the
Confederation in 1870. Recently Nunavut separated from the Territories (we will
have more information on this area at a later date). The Provincial flower is
the
Mountain Avens. There are no major industrial areas in this Providence. The
dominant land uses are devoted to furs and forest products with no major
Agricultural uses. The areas major mineral occurrences are Silver, Gold, Copper,
Iron Ore, Natural Gas, Petroleum, Lead and Zinc.
